I worked on hotel booking in MakeMyTrip’s mobile app as part of Intrepid’s redesign of Hotels, Flights, and Payments.
THE PROBLEM
Booking on mobile
MakeMyTrip asked us to redesign Hotels and Flights for travelers in India, where many people were getting online through mobile devices for the first time. I worked on Hotels.

A desktop site on a small screen
The mobile apps carried over the desktop site’s features into crowded screens. The Android app also needed to adopt Material Design patterns.

The booking flow needed to make deal details and purchase progress clear, so travelers knew what they were paying for.

I worked with the MakeMyTrip team on competitor analysis and research into the Indian market. We needed the app to work on both high-end and low-end Android devices.

Sketches
I sketched layouts that kept booking details available without crowding the screen. Material Design cards helped separate information from different sources.
Wireframes
I explored a hotel results screen that combined a map with a list. Travelers could swipe down to explore locations or up to compare results, then filter by rating, price, and amenities.
Help travelers choose
We looked for points in the booking flow where suggestions or extra details could help travelers choose a hotel or narrow their search.
Suggestions around holidays
Suggestions around holidays
When a booking falls close to a popular Indian holiday, the app suggests extending the stay.
Nearby places
Nearby places
A Nearby card shows a hotel’s proximity to tourist spots and transit.
Reviews by trip type
Reviews by trip type
TripAdvisor reviews are grouped by business, vacation, or family travel, so people can find reviews relevant to their trip.
Solution
Start or resume a search
The Hotels home screen has search and deals for popular destinations. Returning travelers can resume a search, revisit hotels, or book a favorite location again.
Switch between list and map
Swipe up for the full results list or down to explore hotels on the map.
Filter the results
A bottom panel holds filters for price, location, rating, and amenities. The result count and available options update with each selection so travelers can see when they’ve narrowed the search too far.

Compare hotel details
The hotel details page puts photos and videos at the top. Badges summarize the hotel’s qualities for travelers comparing options.
